May 30th Memorial Glade Commemoration

Today, as we recognize the anniversary of the rescue, recovery and relief efforts at Ground Zero following the horrific events of September 11, 2001, I wanted to take a moment to honor the resilience, unity, and unwavering dedication displayed by all those involved in the aftermath of that fateful day.

The memory of September 11th remains etched in our collective history, serving as an important reminder of the fragility of life and the enduring strength of the human spirit. In the wake of unprecedented devastation, the response from first responders, recovery workers, volunteers, and countless others was nothing short of extraordinary.  Monumental in scale and scope, the cleanup effort served as a beacon of hope —a testament to the steadfast resolve of this community to rebuild, to heal, and to honor the memory of those we lost.

I am proud to be at the Memorial Glade in New York today, commemorating its fifth anniversary honoring all those who were vital to this mighty effort – from the truck drivers to the clergy, from the bucket brigades to those who laid new phone lines - and all those who have died or are suffering from health-related issues as a result of exposure to hazards and toxins in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.  This exemplary memorial pays tribute to their selflessness and sacrifice, their courage and compassion.  They exemplify the very best of humanity and serve as an enduring source of inspiration for generations to come.

This legacy of September 11th reflects the importance of unity, empathy, and resilience in the face of adversity.   I am honored to be a part of this community, and proud of the role the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF) plays in supporting those affected by the events of that tragic day and to upholding the values that define us as a nation.
